Den Helder.

These photographs were taken today in and on our way to Den Helder to visit friends.... It's a lovely city. Only 45 minutes away (could be more, could be less... lol) from Amsterdam.

windmills, of course....

It's an old fishing village..... and like any other coastal city, there are lots of boats, yachts, and ships.

People are warm and friendly. They also love the outdoors... like this one, hosting a kiddie birthday party outside their home ......

Den Helder is known for its beaches, beautiful sand dunes and lakes too.......

This is one place in Holland where horses & would-be equestrians go for a little walk on the beach

Our old friend Mickie and daughter, cuddly Em.............

And of course, his wife Mommy Res.

On our way back, we met a fold of Highland kyloes, the oldest known cattle breed which dates back as far as the 12th century. We walked right in front of them. Such beautiful animals.... huge, too! I took several pictures, except that they didn´t come out well because I was quite nervous and my iPhone camera didn´t have a flash. A few years ago, during a trip to Scotland, I heard about these rare kyloes and hoped that we see some along the way. We didn´t. And well, what do you know?! I never thought I´d be seeing them here!!! lol

Don´t you just love weekends? I know, I do! ;)

I love how you tweaked the pictures to look like they were drawn. The picture of Mickie & Em and that of the outdoor kiddie party deserve to be framed. Ka-dianis!

Puede download? Hahaha.

@rwidiani: It is quite far, but it was a long overdue kraambezoek. We had been postponing it because they were either unavailable, or we weren´t. Seperti kita. HAHAHAHA

Let´s set a date for your visit to HEngelo.

@thamarai: our weekends are mostly for visitations.... This is one reason why my Monday morning is always free. Because I catch up with house chores on Monday mornings! lol

I wish I could just laze around and have a glass of rose while watching old films or reading a book. Really... lol

Great photos! I love the touch you've given them! The boats photo is fantastic! I've never visited Den Helder & I've never seen a kyloe! Thanks for sharing these :-)

Droomvla said...

@Jesusa: Thanks! Yes, I used photoshop and all other kinds of "shops". LOL

@A Touch of Dutch: Thanks! I highly recommend the place. It's not very crowded, and the sand dunes are fantastic. We also saw rabbits and hares. It was quite a treat. :)

BTW, I still have to email you the Hengelo stuff. :)

Lovely post! I also love weekends, especially when it doesn't rain ... (mmm....) and you can take short trips like this one somewhere new. Your day was obviously sooooo dianis (I confess I had to go back to my post to remember what the word was hehe)

Droomvla said...

@Aledys: Hmmmm... where did you learn that word? lol... I mean, `dianis´!! HAHAHAAHAHAHA

It means, nice. LOL

@Lopa: It's close to where you live, Lopa. I live in Overijssel and it took us 3 hours to get there. But it was worth the trip, especially because I saw those kyloes this time. They're really beautiful! I wanted to touch them, but I was too nervous and excited to do anything. I just took pictures --- which didn´t come out well because it was already dark.... Jammer! (sigh)
